whew. taking a short break from almost 3 hours of nonstop calligraphy practice and homework, so i thought i'd post. the last time i wrote was thursday, when my parents and karen ("mpak" from here on out) were on their way to my flat. up until last night, it was one, long, nonstop tour of the bay area.
after giving mpak the dime tour of my flat, i drove them to Alice's, a chinese restaurant in nearby noe valley, which is just down the street from curves. they were all starving from traveling all day, as was i. we had a large, lovely late lunch, and afterwards, i drove them to nearby Mitchell's Ice Cream, a San Francisco institution and must for any visitor. i wanted them to try their exotic tropical flavors, like the (Filipino) Halo-Halo and Macapuno. they loved it.
we returned here for a short bathroom break and headed back out to see the city. the first place i took them to see was Lombard Street, the "crookedest street in the world." they were amazed at the grade of the street on the way up, and equally awed by the switchbacks on the way down. at the bottom, we took the obligatory photos of and with the street.
after that, i drove us to Chinatown. at first, i was really stressed out with driving them around, especially since i've only really driven once in the city. surprisingly, i knew my way around the city pretty well and was able to navigate us with ease. i never got us lost once, which is pretty amazing, considering i am usually a passenger on MUNI.
we spent a good couple of hours in Chinatown, buying presents for others and shopping for ourselves. when most shops were about to close, we had a late dinner at one of those "floating boat" sushi/dim sum restaurants. our meal was fairly mediocre, as compared with our earlier lunch. when we were thoroughly exhausted, i drove mpak back to their hotel near SFO and drove myself home. i had every intention of doing homework, but instead, i fell asleep, knackered from the day's events.
... to be continued...
